TARGET'S COMMON DIGITAL ARCHITECTURE

David R. Purdy

This paper provides details of a United States Department of Defense (DoD?) project to develop a network architecture that encompasses all remotely controlled land, sea, and aerial target vehicles. This effort has lead to the development of the Common Digital Architecture (CDA) CDA 101 specification that uses the Controller Area Network1 (CAN) as the baseline physical layer. The building blocks for the Higher Level Protocol (HLP) are CAN Kingdom2 and the as yet to be released National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) NMEA 20003 standard.
